About Us

The History and the Present

Originally staged within Pukekura Park, the Christmas Carols run by Youth For Christ started over 20 years ago. Attracting larger and larger crowds each year to this festive outing meant that a larger venue had to be sourced.

With the backing of New Plymouth Brass Band, Christmas at the Bowl held its inaugural production in 1999.

The Christmas at the Bowl Trust was formed in 2005 to facilitate the ongoing financial administration of the event. An organising committee is formed each year to work with the Artistic Director and ensure all running aspects of the show are catered for.

Focusing on the spirit of Christmas and providing an event where families can enjoy an outing at an expensive time of year for only a gold coin donation, has been the driving aim of the organising committee.
